YouTube for Education

What to do when content you need is erroneously blocked

This video is unavailable

As with the internet filter (and for the same reasons), we will find there is YouTube content that is not available via the Education portal which should be. How best to proceed then is determined by the answer to this question: Is it content that a teacher needs access to once, but is not of general educational benefit, or is it content that is of benefit to the entire school?

One-time access to content:

Teachers can create accounts for themselves on YouTube – YouTube accounts. If teachers inform IT of the account user name (user name only, no passwords, please!), we can add the account to a permitted list for the school. Please register your YouTube account here.

Then when you log into YouTube (not the filter override page – log into YouTube with your YouTube account) you will have full access to YouTube content.

Content which is of benefit to the entire school

If teachers inform IT of content which should be available within the YouTube for Education portal but is not, the IT department can add that content to the permitted list.

There are two ways to add permitted content:

In the case of a single video, copy the entire URL of the video (highlighted in blue, above) and submit it to the IT department. (We will not work from video titles alone because of the ambiguity involved – full URL of the video only, please.) The IT department will then add the video to the permitted list.

In the case of a channel – a collection of videos maintained by an individual or organization, typically with a common theme – we can apply to YouTube to add the entire channel to the YouTube EDU content.

Search results for Education Channels

In this case, again, submit the entire URL of the channel and we will process the request to have it added to the YouTube EDU portal.

As with all new things, I'm sure we will encounter stumbling blocks along the way to realizing the full benefit of YouTube EDU. Your patience and cooperation in helping us overcome these blocks is greatly appreciated.
